Learn How Cortisol, the Stress Hormone, Can Lead to Obesity

Stress has been linked to an increase in emotional eating. So it’s no surprise when people reach for the piece of cake or fries when they feel strained or anxious. Learning to avoid both emotional eating and a stress-linked hormone can help you lead a healthier life.

Cortisol, a hormone produced in the body by part of the adrenal gland, is secreted when the body experience stress. Pegged the stress hormone, cortisol is typically beneficial to the body. It plays a significant role in the body’s utilization of fat, protein and carbohydrates, as well as the regulation of the cardiovascular function.

When we are faced with a flight or fight circumstance, our cortisol levels rise. At this time, the body forms glucose through the breakdown of muscle protein and the release o amino acids. This higher level of glucose, coupled with a decrease use of glucose by the body, ensures the brain gets ample energy to either run away from or fight off the present threat.

A small amount of cortisol is good for the body however; too much for too long can have adverse effects. Excessive levels of cortisol are usually caused by a state of chronic stress, and can lead to a number of problems.

Cortisol is a powerful signal to increase appetite and store fat. Higher levels of cortisol tell our brain that we are hungry. They also tell our body to store as much fat as they can without releasing it.

Being in a state of chronic stress can lead to craving for high -fat, high-carb foods like cookies, candy and greasy fries. This reactive habit can lead to dangerous weight gain specifically around the waist. In fact chronic stress is considered a major contributing factor to obesity.

This is where Leanology Weight Loss Capsules comes in. Leanology capsules have an exclusive blend of ingredients named Converta, The Fat Burning Accelerator, which works to get rid of body fat. Leanology blocks fat through the fibre it contains; converta “converts” fat cells into fuel for use as energy. The ingredients in Leanology’s formula also help to limit cortisol production. So even while the cortisol is signaling the brain to store fat, Leanology Weight Loss Capsules help liberate and burn fat cells, resulting in weight loss especially around the belly.

A natural approach to suppress cortisol is to:

1. Decrease stress. It’s a lot easier said than done, but try to find ways to decrease the impact stress can have on your body. Exercise regularly and get sufficient sleep. If you experience chronic stress, take Adaptogen 10 Plus - TriVita’s powerful natural stress relief formula

2. Avoid excessive sugar and caffeine. If you are a regular caffeine drinker, try to drink a non-stimulating herbal tea that is caffeine free.

3. Take Leanology Weight Loss Capsules. The capsules’ exclusive blend, Converta, works to convert fat into energy, curbing your appetite for hours.

Certainly, some stress is unavoidable. But when too much for too long effects your health and weight, try to adopt smart lifestyle habits – and let Leanology help.

How you Can Repair the Damaging Effects of Stress

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Is your health under pressure from chronic stress? You could be stressed out from a big event, such as a wedding or some small irritation such as being hungry. Stress can be caused by any kind of change – large or small. A 2007 study of Americans found one-third of people live under stress, and that can be doing serious harm to both your physical and mental health.

Over time, stress can lead to a number of serious problems, including heart disease, glucose intolerance, nervous conditions, immune system disorders, acute respiratory disease/ asthma, easily susceptibility to cold and flu, diabetes, allergies, depression, osteoarthritis, digestive problems, reproductive/sexual difficulties, back pain, sleep deprivation, increased fibromyalgia.

Stress impacts us in different ways,

Mental – Work schedules, school assignments, finances, taking on too much;

Physical – Gardening, hiking, moving heavy objects, exercising more than you are used to, straining your body;

Emotional – relationship problems, taking care of a loved one who is sick, grieving the death of someone close, losing a job;

Environmental – the water, air and food supply often contain toxins that can create havoc in your body.

Since stress can eventually wear your body down, it’s important to manage it as much as possible. First try to identify all the things in your life that is stressing you out: marital problems, work conflicts, or a death or illness in the family. Once you identify and understand these stressors, you can begin to find ways to change your environment and manage them.

A growing number of studies show that you can use your mind to combat stress. Support groups, stress relief and certain vitamin supplements may help alter stress hormone levels and benefit the immune system

Some ways to reduce stress are:

Implement the 10 Essentials for health and wellness into your daily life. Exercise and eat right, seek out friends to talk to or build a social support network, create peaceful time in your day, try different relaxation techniques, such as yoga or meditation, until you find one that works for you, don’ smoke and don’t drink excessively or abuse other substances.

How to Avoid Fractures From Weakened Bones

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Your body is constantly changing. Your family history, the foods you eat, where you live and how active you are play a part in the adjustments you experience in your body over your lifetime. Without healthy nourishment and activity the changes that you’ll experience over time will naturally lead to damage and disability.

By the time you reach 20, the growth process in your bones (called modeling) ends and a new process called “bone remodeling” begins. This is a normal process that breaks down and rebuilds bones.

Your bones store important minerals. Calcium and phosphorous are minerals that make up the structure of your bones and are also held in reserve to use for other important functions. These two minerals are needed in nearly every system of the body – and when they’re needed, they are taken from your bones and moved to other areas.

Every time these essential minerals are withdrawn and there isn’t a mineral deposit made to help your body rebuild bones, your bones weaken. This creates an imbalance in the remodeling process – your bones are breaking down faster than they’re been built. If you don’t add additional calcium and phosphorous through supplements, your bones will grow increasingly weak, will become brittle (osteoporosis), and break.

TriVita Bone Builder is a physician-approved formula that helps rebalance the remodeling process to help your bones build at a faster rate. A clinical study shows that TriVita Bone Builder’s proprietary formula contains the exact balance of minerals, including calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and vitamin D, to help rebuild bones. After nine months of taking TriVita Bone Builder, subjects showed significantly greater bone mass density at the hip and neck when compared with subjects who did not take Bone Builder.

It is recommended to ask your health care provider to schedule regular bone scans to track your bone health after the age of 50.

How to Reduce the Damaging Effects of Stress

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Exercise helps relieve stress. That’s a fairly common sense belief these days, but it is also one backed up by a lot of careful scientific research.

Exercise causes the brain to produce a cocktail of helpful biochemicals that help reduce stress. Runners, for example, are familiar with that ‘endorphin high’ that comes from marathon workouts. That’s the result of the brain releasing an opiate-like substance that the body produces naturally to reduce pain. In extreme cases it leads to a sense of euphoria.

Along with endorphins there are other neuro-transmitters produced – serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine – that also have beneficial effects as mood elevators. The effects of those is shown most clearly when they exist at too low levels – depression, anxiety and sometimes increased aggression.

Exercise helps reduce stress not only by the biochemicals it produces, but by reducing others produced by stress. When a person experiences stress the sympathetic nervous system produces cortisol and hormones that – if left unaltered in the blood stream – produce harmful effects on blood vessels. They can produce scaring, which can lead to narrowing of the arteries.

Exercise and following the 10 Essentials helps solve that problem in two ways. A good workout will actually use up those compounds, breaking them down into products that are harmless and get passed out in urine. It helps in a second way by making blood vessels stronger and more elastic, which helps them resist the effects of any stress-produced chemicals that don’t get used up.

Stress often produces excessively tense muscles, particularly in the neck, shoulders and calves. Exercise can help loosen those up, both as part of a general warm-up period and during the main workout. At the same time, those muscles are getting strengthened and infused with fresh, highly oxygenated blood. Lowering ‘bad’ cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood helps improve the circulatory system, too. A beneficial effect all the way around.

There are psychological benefits from a regular exercise routine that help eliminate stress, as well. Focusing on the routine at hand takes away the conscious focus from the stress initiators. It’s difficult to concentrate on that unreasonable boss and his unfair actions that morning when you’re working your way around the weight stations.

Those effects also help give the mind a chance to bring about homeostasis. That’s a feedback mechanism within the body that brings it back to a state of equilibrium from any extreme. A strenuous workout takes the mind off problems, giving that system time to function without continuing to overload it.

Other psychological benefits follow from a regular workout. Improving overall health and fitness helps produce self-confidence. When you look good, you often feel good. Beyond that, it helps you realize that you are exerting effort to improve your mind and body. That serves to overcome the feelings of helplessness and resultant passivity that so often accompany stress.

Adaptogen 10 Plus helps our body reduce the damaging effects of stress. the affect of adaptogens are enhanced with aloe vera’s outstanding nutritional delivery system and antioxidants free radical-fighting properties.

When muscles tense, blood pressure rises, or our heart race in response to stress. Sometimes, just getting out of the house or away from work for a vigorous walk can do wonders. You’ll find stress levels will be lowered and your overall mood will elevate very quickly and adaptogen will help our body functions balance and return to normal.

Body Fat around Your Waist Increases Risk Factors for Diabetes

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Why any particular person gets diabetes isn’t completely known. Complicating the situation is the fact that there are different types of the disease, though Type 1 and Type 2 are the most common. Of those, Type 2 accounts for about 90% of cases.

Fortunately for those who are at risk, many factors are lifestyle choices and therefore can be altered. Even after contracting the disease, much of the management of the disease involves controllable issues.

Obesity is widely recognized as one of the leading risk factors for developing Type 2 diabetes. While there is a genetic influence – some shed or gain weight and body fat more easily than others – it is subject to influence by choices. A high BMI (Body Mass Index) is an adjustable number with the proper diet and exercise.

A BMI of higher than 27 correlates with increased risk of Type 2 diabetes. The number should not be taken as a sole determinant, however, since its diagnostic value is less for those who are very muscular or are pregnant. But a high BMI is an indicator of obesity and should be checked.

Beyond simply being overweight, where the majority of excess body fat resides plays a role in the odds of contracting Type 2 diabetes. Those who tend to store body fat around the waist are at higher risk. While that in itself is largely a genetic issue – some individuals are naturally pear-shaped, others are not – the results can be influenced by diet and exercise.

Supplements that target fat at the waistline such as leanology weight loss capsules and GlucoBalance helps balance your sugar levels and carb cravings naturally. But an overall weight-reducing diet and general exercise program and supplements help reduce large fat deposits, including those of the waistline.

More generally, a sedentary lifestyle increases the odds of contracting Type 2 diabetes. Partly that’s the result of adopting a mindset that brings with it a number of less than ideal choices. But in particular, the lack of exercise is a direct cause of higher body fat percentage as well as a number of follow on effects.

Exercise certainly burns calories. But even the resting state burns about 70 calories per hour just to power metabolic processes. But regular movement helps stimulate the lymph system, strengthen and loosen muscles, oxygenate tissues and brings with it many other positive benefits.

Exercise helps control blood pressure, a factor in contracting diabetes. It helps regulate glucose levels, which have a major role in the disease since excess glucose in the blood is a defining attribute of diabetes. It alters cholesterol levels, another risk factor for contracting the condition.

Though the risk of contracting diabetes is present for anyone, it’s good to know you can drive it to much lower odds by adopting healthy choices.
